Clinical Research Experience

After founding our clinical research department in 1985, Decatur Memorial Hospital has been continuously funded by the National Cancer Institute. For 29 years DMH research has been funded by the NCI Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP) grant. In 2014 DMH CCI was awarded a new NCI grant, and we are called Heartland Cancer Research NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP). The DMH Cancer Care Institute is one of three components of the Heartland NCORP, which include DMH CCI, Illinois Cancer Care in Peoria, and Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis. Dr. James Wade, DMH Medical Oncology Director, is the Principal Investigator and oversees the program. Being an NCORP member gives the investigators access to all phases of clinical trials coordinated by national research base programs, such as SWOG, NRG Oncology, University of Rochester Cancer Center, ECOG-ACRIN, and Alliance Research. The DMH research team has been recognized by SWOG, National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSAPB), MDAnderson Cancer Center, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology for their excellence in research performance. The DMH research team has collaborated with many companies, including the following:
