Nuclear Medicine Parathyroid Scan
This study is performed for the evaluation of a possible
parathyroid adenoma. No prep is needed for this study.
Following registration, a technologist will greet you and
take you to the nuclear medicine department. There you will be asked a few brief
questions, and then given an intravenous injection of a medicine (radionuclide).
Images are then obtained immediately and then at 2 - 3 hours. Images are taken
with you lying on a table with the camera positioned over the neck. After
completing the images (approximately 10 minutes) you will be taken back to
the lobby or directed to your next appointment.
