Computed Tomography Endoscopy
Endoscopy is traditionally performed with the placement of
a fiber optic scope into airway, esophagus, stomach, and colon. This requires an
admission to same day surgery, the use of anaesthesia, and an overall time in the
hospital of several hours. With the advent of the helical CT scanner and the power
of the computer. Endoscopic exams can now be performed with the use of a CT scanner
as an outpatient. This requires no anaesthesia, no fiber optic scopes, and takes 20
minutes from start to finish. After you register at the outpatient desk, a technologist
will come and greet you. They will escort you to the CT suite where the study is performed.
You will lie on the table and the images obtained in less than 60 seconds. After this you
will be taken back to the lobby, and from there you're on your way. The endoscopy is
performed on the computer after you have left the CT suite and perhaps the building.
