Nuclear Medicine
DMH has a long tradition of excellence in nuclear medicine imaging. This continued with the
installation of the ADAC VERTEX IMAGING SYSTEM. This has allowed for the upgrading
of pre-existing services as well as the addition of several new services, most notably
MOLECULAR COINCIDENCE DETECTION (MCD). Molecular coincidence detection allows for
the imaging of FDG a radioactive glucose labelled agent commonly used in PET IMAGING.
The imaging of FDG is extremely useful in the evaluation of oncologic diseases and previously
was only available in large teaching hospitals. With the addition of this system, this service
can be provided locally to the patient's of Decatur and the surrounding area. As a matter of
fact, DMH has the SECOND LARGEST VOLUME world-wide for FDG imaging with the MCD system.
