Spotlight on Skill
The DMH Diagnostic radiology team of professionals brings central Illinois an unparalleled level of knowledge and expertise.
FACT: DMH has eliminated the need to travel to a big city to find the latest diagnostic radiology technology.
By employing these latest, more advanced technologies, we at DMH are able to diagnose our patients faster and more effectively.
Technology Worth a Million Words
- Philips Precedence SPECT/CT
DMH offers the Philips Precedence SPECT/CT system, which provides three-dimensional computerized images that show actual metabolic body function deep within the body. The technology expands diagnostic and screening capabilities by combining nuclear medicine with multi-slice CT imaging to obtain more advanced clinical images. This technology may help lead to potentially life-saving treatment options or rule out serious medical conditions.
- GE LGE LightSpeed VCT 64 Slice Scanner
As of July 2005, DMH is one of only 65 hospitals in American offering diagnostic technology with the world's fastest CT scanning device-the GE LightSpeed VCT-64 Slice Scanner-which non-invasively and painlessly captures an image of a whole organ in one second, the heart in five seconds, or a head to toe scan in 10 seconds.
The 64 Slice creates 64 images of the body, and the images can be viewed almost instantaneously as either a single slice, or as a three-dimensional model, advancing the diagnosis of heart attack, pulmonary embolism, cancer, heart disease, stroke and traumatic injury.
- LightSpeed CT
Decatur Memorial Hospital offers patients at all our locations a fast CT scan with the LightSpeed computed tomography (CT) system, which provides highly detailed images of the body, and more accurate diagnosis.
- Digital Mammography
DMH is the first in Macon County to employ this advanced technology that detects the subtle signs of early stage breast cancer.
- Philips Panorama 1.0T open high-field MRI
Decatur Memorial Hospital’s South Shores Imaging Center is only the second in the United States and the third in the world to install the Philips Panorama 1.0T open high-field MRI system combined with a virtual environment.
- 3 Tesla MRI
DMH is the first in the state of Illinois to offer the GE Discovery 750w 3.0T MRI with the new PET/CT + MR technology. This new 70 cm flared, open bore design includes new patient coils that are softer and flexible, improving patient comfort for everyone. The 10cm wider magnet size is especially comfortable for larger patients who found MRI systems to be confining. The table is designed with different cushion densities which help alleviate pressure points for a more relaxing exam. The new PET/CT + MR technology allows us to fuse three powerful imaging modalities in to one diagnostic image providing doctors with the latest technology for the management of cancer, neurodegenerative and cardiac diseases.
- PACS - (Picture Archiving & Communication System)
No matter how advanced the CT or MRI machines have been, viewing results relies on developing film for doctors. Decatur Memorial Hospital is one of the only area hospitals to utilize PACS, a high-resolution systems that sends radiology images immediately through a computer. Images are sent with the touch of a button, allowing multiple viewers to review the images at the same time. Ultimately, PACS increases efficiency for the radiologists and helps you get your diagnosis sooner.
