This weight loss level provides nutritional beverages to replace each regular meal for those needing to lose a significant amount of weight quickly.
New Direction is recommended for women who need to lose 40 or more pounds and men with 50 or more pounds to lose.
Weekly education sessions emphasize weight management and lifestyle changes. Participants have personal contact with an exercise physiologist, registered dietitian, registered nurse and a behaviorist, in addition to close supervision by our medical staff.
Before starting New Direction, participants must have a thorough physical examination with laboratory work and an EKG. A behavioral and fitness assessment and a meeting with a registered dietitian also is required. A psychologist is also an integral part of the program and is available to program participants.
New Direction program participants may use the DMH Wellness Center’s exercise pool and equipment free for one month and $15/month thereafter, if participants exercise at least twice each week. Sessions with an exercise physiologist or certified fitness trainer are free.
