Institutional Review Board
Applying to the IRB
The IRB application process starts with your submission of the IRB submission requirements including, but not limited to: consent forms, protocol, authorization, and other required appendices/materials. Please be sure to include the License, Curriculum Vitae/Resume, and responsible Conduct of Research completion certificate for each member of your research team. Following the application submission, the DMH staff pre-reviews your application to make sure all of the necessary materials are there for IRB review. We then inform you of the IRB Code that has been assigned to your study, the committee level of review for your study (expedited, exempt, or full board), and the date it will do so.
If your protocol goes Full Board, two weeks after the application deadline the IRB will convene and make a decision about your application. Seven to ten days after the meeting you will receive a letter from the IRB detailing the outcome of the meeting in regards to your research. If your study is exempt or expedited you will be informed of the decision upon review and approval of the chairperson.
