Now that your doctor has referred you to the specialists at the DMH Lung Center, we'd like to acquaint you with our office and procedures.
Our office is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. We are open Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
In an emergency
If an emergency occurs during our non-scheduled hours, contact your family physician. If you do not have a family physician or he or she is unavailable, go to the nearest emergency room. There, a doctor will evaluate you and notify us of your condition.

Our office staff is well trained to answer your questions. Feel free to call any time with questions concerning medications, treatment or respiratory care in general.
About our physicians
We function like most physicians offices. Our physicians' group is called Central Illinois Lung Internist Associates, S.C. The physicians provide inpatient and outpatient care. With our physician schedule, you may be treated by one or all of our doctors.
J. Steven Arnold, M.D., has been practicing in Decatur since 1986. He graduated from the University of Chicago Medical School. He did his residency in internal medicine at Washington University, Jewish Hospital, St. Louis. His pulmonary and critical care training was at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland. He is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary diseases, critical care medicine and sleep medicine.
Carol Cohen, M.D., came to Decatur in 1992. Before that she was an assistant professor at McGill University, Montreal, Canada, and chief of pulmonary disease at Mount Sinai Hospital. She attended college and medical school at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. Following an internship at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver, she returned to the Royal Victoria Hospital at McGill University to complete a residency program in internal medicine and respiratory diseases. This included a two-year research fellowship at the Meakins Christie Laboratory. She is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Respiratory Medicine) and is Board Certified in Sleep Medicine.
Khaled Nazzal, MD, joined the Lung Center in 2008 after completing a pulmonary and critical care fellowship at the Universityy of Illinois at Chicago. He completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio. He is board certified in internal medicine and pulmonary diseases.
Ajay Verma, M.D., comes to the Lung Center from Nebraska where he practiced for four years. He completed his residency in internal mediciane at SUNY Syracuse, New York. His Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship was at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit. He is board certified in Internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine. He has a special interest in critical care and bronchoscopy.
Registration and billing information
For billing purposes, DMH Pre-Registration staff will make every attempt to register you prior to your appointment in the Lung Center.
On the day of your appointment, please stop and sign in at Patient Registration before coming to the Lung Center.
