Decatur Memorial Hospital Offers Digital Mammography
July 8, 2003
Decatur Memorial Hospital now offers the state-of-the-art digital mammography system called the Senographeâ
2000D made by GE Medical Systems. It has been installed and is fully operational.
This mammography system produces breast images through computerization rather than on X-ray film. There are many advantages to the system. The images are clear and easy to read, and can give better visibility, especially near the skin line. The image is ready to read within ten seconds. Women no longer have to wait while the films are developed to be sure the images are usable; that means the test can take as little as half the time of a film mammogram. If a second opinion is needed, the image can be sent electronically to a second doctor; and can then be printed on film for review.
"This system will revolutionize breast care. It allows Decatur Memorial Hospital the opportunity to offer our clients state-of-the-art mammograms with the least possible hassle and disruption to their lives. It also gives our referring physicians accurate images to use in diagnosis.
