Childbirth Experience Classes (Prenatal)
The Childbirth Experience class is a series of two classes to help you prepare for your baby. Led by registered nurses, the first class of each series addresses what to expect before, during and after childbirth; birth by c-section; pain management; when to come to the hospital. The second classs of each series reviews breast feeding (pumping/storing, positioning your baby, tips for succcess) and newborn care in the early days and beyond. E-Birth Class - Online Childbirth Class
Our online childbirth class is ideal for those expectant parents who can’t attend an on-site childbirth class due to work schedules, time constraints, or medical conditions.
The eight-chapter program is an interactive, web-based class that uses videos, personal birth stories, animations, activities, and games to teach all the essential information parents need to know to prepare for their birth. Family Birth Center Tours
We encourage expectant parents who anticipate delivering at DMH to take a complimentary FREE tour of the labor and delivery area: see a birthing room, the nursery and post partum area. Tours will be offered every other month at 7 pm. For more information, call 217-876-3400 or register online.
Photographing your baby
DMH partners with Bella Baby Photography. A complimentary photo session will be done before discharge. Siblings, your favorite baby blanket, even parents’ hands can be included.
Real Dads Rock
Real Dads Rock Conscious FatheringTM is held from 6—8:30 pm and teaches new fathers how to handle, feed, burp, change, clean and respond to your baby’s needs. This class is FREE. To register, call 217-422-6294.
This FREE class covers newborn care, childproofing a home, toys for various ages and other new-grandparent concerns. The class meets from 7—8:30 pm in the OB classroom. Registration required. Call 217-876-3100 or register online.

New Brother/Sister Day Camp
Children ages three years to 10 years learn about new babies, what to expect when mom goes to the hospital and how to help at home. Children practice with a doll; please bring a doll or stuffed animal. This class COSTS $15 and meets at 6:30 pm in the OB classroom. Registration required; call 217-876-3400 or register online.
Newborn Care and Breast Feeding Basics
Offered FREE and taught by a certified lactation counselor, this class provides information about why breast feeding is the BEST choice for baby and mother. This course reviews breast feeding in the early days and beyond, common concerns, pumping and storing breast milk and how to care for your newborn. Fathers/support persons welcome. InBeTWEEN for Girls
Girls, ages nine to 12 years, are invited (along with a parent) to learn more about the life issues that are important for teens to know: health, physical and emotional changes of puberty, the reproductive system, the importance of nutrition and exercise, caring for your body, coping with new feelings and relationships. The one-day class is held from 10—11:30 am in the OB classroom and is FREE of charge. Registration required; call 217-876-3100 or register online.
Safe Sitter Class
This one-session class teaches 11—13 year-old girls and boys how to handle emergencies and provide safe child care. Participants should bring a sack lunch. Drinks/snack provided. The class COSTS $30 and meets from 9 am—3 pm in the OB classroom - 3rd floor. Registration required; 217-876-3100 or register online.
