DMH Wellness Center Offers Programs to Help Keep New Year’s Resolutions

Decatur, Ill.– If you’ve had trouble keeping your New Year’s resolutions in years past, turn to the DMH Wellness Center this January.

Decatur Memorial Hospital’s Wellness Center offers the community a variety of health programs, whether your goal is to lose weight, eat healthier, quit smoking or manage a condition like diabetes.

“Many people struggle to keep their New Year’s resolutions,” said DMH Wellness Center Manager Linda Danison, R.N. “At the DMH Wellness Center, we’re committed to helping people identify realistic goals and teaching them how to adopt healthy lifestyle patterns so they can achieve and maintain their goals throughout the year.”

The DMH Wellness Center is located at 241 W. Weaver Road in Forsyth. The center helps community members achieve and maintain healthy lifestyles through nutrition, behavior and exercise. Staff members include nurses, dietitians, counselors and trainers who work as a team to identify individual goals for each client. Programs include diabetes education, weight management, exercise training, gym memberships, rehabilitation therapy and more.

Diabetes Self-Management Education Program
Learn how to manage diabetes in this American Diabetes Association accredited program. Physician referral required.

  • Class 1: Jan. 12 or 26 from noon to 4 p.m.
  • Class 2: Jan. 13 or 27 from noon to 4 p.m.
  • Class 3: Jan. 4 from 2 to 3 p.m.

Adult Weight Management Orientation
Learn about three different weight management programs offered through the DMH Wellness Center.
FREE ORIENTATION.

Freedom From Smoking
Let us help you quit smoking! Our American Lung Association trained facilitators can help smokers identify their addiction and provide ways to break their habit. The program consists of seven weekly classes with one additional class held in week four. Cost is $20 for the program.

Pre-Diabetes Program
Learn how to prevent or delay the progression of pre-diabetes to type-2 diabetes by making healthy lifestyle changes. Cost is $60 for this six-week program.

Making Your Resolutions a Reality
Have you made resolutions that only lasted briefly or made minimal impact? Do you have a clear vision of your goals but struggle achieving them? This class will assist you in developing realistic steps for successful, lasting change. FREE CLASS.

Grocery Store Tour
Walk through various sections of the grocery store with a registered dietitian to learn important tips for healthy shopping. Cost is $10. Registration required.

Managing Compulsive Overeating
Do you sometimes feel out of control with food, or guilty and ashamed of your eating behaviors? If so, this six-week series offers skills and information to help you gain insight into these behaviors and manage compulsive eating. FREE CLASS.

Nutrition Myths Debunked
Are all carbs bad? If I eat after 8 p.m. will I gain weight? Discover the answers to common nutrition myths in this eye-opening class. FREE CLASS.

Group Exercise Classes
The DMH Wellness Center also offers group exercise classes such as yoga, circuit training and water aerobics in an indoor heated pool. Call 876-4249 for class times and registration.

Wellness Coaching
