Decatur, IL – Dec. 2, 2008 – Decatur Memorial Hospital will be awarded the proceeds from the Sandy McKenzie Memorial Golf Tournament. The news conference and check presentation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m. at Decatur Memorial Hospital Barnes Lobby.
The Sandy McKenzie Golf Tournament Committee will present the check to Decatur Memorial Hospital. Kenneth Smithmier, DMH President and C.E.O., will accept the check. This year the eighth annual tournament raised over $30,000, the most it has ever raised in one year. In the past eight years, the tournament has raised over $180,000 total. The golf tournament was held Sept. 8 at South Side Country Club of Decatur.
Sandy McKenzie died when she was 46-years-old from breast cancer. Her husband Larry Rogers and many of Sandy’s friends serve on the golf committee every year and hold the tournament in her memory.
The proceeds from the golf tournament will be used for breast cancer research in Decatur and Macon County, the Mammography Initiative (no-cost screening mammograms to women who meet the financial guidelines) and breast cancer support groups.
