August 28, 2009...Decatur Memorial Hospital PrimeTime is providing Zostavax® for adults age 60 and older. The same virus that causes chickenpox stays in the body and can later resurface as Shingles, a painful, blistering rash. Adults that have had chickenpox can now get Shingles.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends FDA-approved ZOSTAVAX®, a vaccine that can help prevent Shingles in adults 60 years and of age and older.
ZOSTAVAX® cannot be used to treat Shingles, or the nerve pain that may follow Shingles, once you have it.
Those interested in receiving the vaccine must have a prescription from their doctor. To schedule an appointment to receive a ZOSTAVAX® vaccine, call DMH PrimeTime at 217-876-2191.
