Café DMH, Decatur Memorial Hospital’s new hospital cafeteria and kitchen, will open Monday, Nov. 16, 2009.
The 29,000 square foot addition consists of a state-of-the-art kitchen, food court area, and atrium-style dining room. Construction of the new facility was done by local skilled trades, contractors and subcontractors. “The new kitchen at Café DMH is designed primarily for patient driven meal service,” said Matt Oberheim, director, DMH Food & Nutrition Services. “The kitchen area also includes a convenient cooking and assembly area for Meals on Wheels volunteers and a catering area to provide first rate catering for public and private functions.”
The food court area provides visitors with a wide variety of food choices. Features of the new food court area include a grill station, stone hearth pizza oven, a special chef‘s display station, wok, char broiler, meat carving station, island salad bar, Dunkin Donuts coffee station and more. Café DMH will serve breakfast from 6:30 – 10:30 a.m., lunch from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., snacks, soups, salads, and deli from 2 – 4:30 p.m., and dinner from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. daily.
The atrium-style dining room at Café DMH seats 235 people and features skylights and large glass windows. An outside terrace, capable of seating 60 people, is connected to the dining room. Two meeting rooms are also available and can seat up to 40 people.
Over the last year, DMH Food & Nutrition employees have participated in an extensive training program designed to improve customer service and food preparation skills.
